• About The Dagny

The Story of a Skyline Standout

When the Batterymarch Building was built in 1928, it was hailed as the city’s first Art Deco skyscraper. Just as it marked a new era for Boston then, our historic Boston hotel represents a new celebration — and purpose — for this storied structure.

  • What’s the story behind The Dagny Boston?

The Dagny Boston is inspired by a moment in the city’s history when optimism, craftsmanship, and modernity converged. Originally opened in 1928 as the Batterymarch Building, Boston’s first Art Deco skyscraper, the landmark symbolized a city looking forward, confident in the spirit of “Celebrating Possibility.”

The name “Dagny” comes from the Old Norse words dagr (day) and (new), meaning “new day.” That spirit is woven throughout the hotel today: a celebration of fresh starts, bold ideas, and the joy found at the intersection of Work and Play.

Reimagined with a sense of Deco Delight, The Dagny blends architectural legacy with lighthearted touches—pairing striking design with moments of whimsy and warmth. From the library lounge to the guest rooms and gathering spaces, the experience balances luxury with levity, formality with positivity.
